It’s now Saturday August 8,2009 and 59 degrees at 10:06 pm here in Homer AK.
We started the day off with a knock on our RV door - "ready to go fishin?"
Everyone piled in the trucks - Dorothy-Les and Yogi (their Weimeraner) in their 1970 Ford pickup and us two in our Toyota and headed for the Spit.
We spent the next 10 hours fishing. First for halibt, then for silver and King salmon.
When I was growing up and fishing with my dad and brother on the Chesapeake Bay in MD we had a running contest for “First fish, biggest fish and most fish”.
Today Perry got 1st fish and most fish (a total of 5 halibut and 2 silver salmon).
Cheryl got the Biggest – which happened to be a huge Halibut (25 lbs) and a King Salmon! He was about 15 lbs and fought like a tiger!
A good time was had by all
While Dorothy, Les and Perry cleaned and filleted fish I fixed Mexican for dinner.
The weather was so good you could see a volcano erupting in the distance @80 miles away! We got some pics that will be loaded soon - the water was what my bro Wally calls "Flat Ass calm" :)
Was hoping to get a good pic of some puffins and Sea Otters but didn't see any otters today - maybe this week.
Dorothy and Les leave Monday for Fairbanks :( we'll miss both them and Yogi terribly. They've become a part of our "family". They will return to Homer before leaving for their CO home in the fall.
Oh - forgot to tell you - we had a Moose visit this week !! He/she stayed over night in the yard next to the house. We didn't see her - just where she slept over night.
There are always alot of moose droppings around the next day to show they've been visiting.
Stay tuned for pictures of our fish soon!
